Today we are talking about la dia de la hispanidad where all Spanish speaking countries have a day off to celebrate there Spanishness.
This all began when a plucky Italian (funded by the spanish crown) found America but he didnt know this he believed that he found India. So the spanish goverment sent several other explorers to bring the spanish crown to the West Indies such as Nuñez de Balboa.
One of the other reasons according to a local source is that it symbolizies the reremberance of the deaths of the Spainerds that have died for their country and the crown.
In the year of 1987 it become law to do nothing on this day and in many ways it is like reremberance Sunday for us brits.
