FACTS ABOUT KINGS
1. June the 11th was the date of the death of Henry the Young King, who was crowned joint King of England in 1170, alongside his father Henry II.
2. Henry the Young King went to war against his father and died of dysentery during a campaign in France.
3. The longest-reigning UK King was George III who reigned for over 59 years.
Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II both surpassed that figure.
4. Shakespeare, like most others of his time, though that Queen bees were King bees.
5. According to Samuel Pepys’ diary, Charles II was the first man to wear a waistcoat.
6. The Danish for King is Kong. The film King Kong was therefore called ‘Kong King’.
7. The coronation of Edward VII in 1901 had to be postponed to allow an emergency appendectomy operation to be performed on the King.
8. King James I kept an ‘ellefant’ in St James’s Park, which was given a gallon of wine every day.
9. Charles the Fat, Charles the Bald and Charles the Simple were all ninth century kings of France.
10. Louis the Stammerer was the son of Charles the Bald and father of Charles the Simple.
