LETS GET TRIBAL

Hello ladies and gents this is the Viking telling you that today we are talking about

THE DROKPA

The Himalayan Mountins act as a home to about 50 million people but in those 50 million people lies a group of very unique people called the Drokpa. The Drokpa tribe is often referred to as the hidden Aryans of the Himalyians, and they are believed to be the purest remnants of light skinned europeans who invaded India years ago.

The Drokpa is a very different tribe compared to all other people that live in the Himalayas, they are physically, Culturally and Linguistically different to all of the other tribes. A unique aspect of the Drokpa tribe is that they engage in showing public affection and in wife swapping.

The Drokpa tribe is one of the tribes that faces a lot of threats, and if we don't help this tribe then it will go extinct.

Politics

The drokpa tribe does not really have a say in political matters because they are not entirely on either side of the divide. Because the drokpas don't have a say in a lot of political issues, this could be a threat to them because they need something to represent their community on the political spectrum. Without being represented in the political spectrum, could bring harm to their cultural heritage.

Urbanization

As urbanization is coming closer to the Drokpa tribe, The men of the tribe are going into different villages in a search for jobs. While the men are searching for jobs they also marry women from the different village and this is violating the culture of the Drokpa. The drokpa tribes gene pool is under threat because normally you wouldn't be allowed to marry different woman from another village and tribe.

Debt to land owners

The land that the Drokpas stay at isn't actually their own so they have to give a debt to the land owners. The Drokpas can either pay in cash, butter, cheese or livestock. This can be a threat to the Drokpas because they wouldn't really have a lot of resources for themselves if they have to pay the land owners.

Global warming/ climate change is the greatest threat facing the Drokpa tribe. The drokpa tribe is being affected by climate change in 3 areas that are really important : Economical, environmental and social.

Global warming is playing a big role to economically threat the Drokpa tribe.

The main source of income for the drokpa tribe is the crops that they grow. The tribe is quite popular for the apricots that they grow and in the past they have grown quite a lot of barley, potatoes and apples but as the temperature is getting hotter and these crops are getting harder to grow. The tribe is being forced to start growing other crops such as cherries, Plums, Grapes, Tomatoes and so on. The climate is a big threat to the Drokpa because the rains patterns are starting to disappear which is not allowing the crops grow properly. This is a big threat to the tribe economically because if the crops don't grow properly, and if this causes customers to stop buying their crops it would change the tribes income which would change their lives a lot.

Once the tribes income drops they will have to move out of the region that they are staying at right now because they wouldn't have enough cash to give to the landowners, and if they move out of the region that they are staying at then it would also affect them culturally because they have been staying at the same place for so long but now they will be forced to leave. Global warming is having a big impact on the income of the drokpas and this is a big threat to them

Some environmental challenges are also coming to the Drokpa tribe due to climate change and global warming. The drokpa region has gone into flood before and it could go into flood again which will cause the drokpas a lot of damage. If the region goes into flood the whole lifestyle of the drokpas will be changed and they will have to start everything again from scratch.

In 2015 the irregular rain pattern that occurred caused a landslide to occur which washed away the whole drokpa village. The damages cost about 700 Euros and it was a lot for the village to take on.

Lately because the air is getting warmer, some of the big glaciers have been melting and they have taken down a few of the drokpa houses already and if the weather keeps getting warmer, more glaciers will start to melt which will take down more houses which will again cause the drokpa a lot of money. If the weather keeps getting warmer it will threaten the drokpas and it will put them in a bad situation where they might have to leave everything behind and start from scratch.

The Drokpas are also being quite socially impacted because of climate change and global warming in quite a lot of ways. The drokpas might have to leave behind their whole culture and their way of life all because of climate change.

The drokpas whole lifestyle is changing due to climate change and this will threaten them because they will need to adapt to new lifestyle changes such as their new diets and the weather that they live in quite quickly, and if they fail to do this it will affect them quite a bit and it may threaten the population of the group as a lot of them might get sick or the population may even start to die off.

The Drokpas culture is drastically being changed due to climate change. The drokpas claim to have been vegan for about 2,200 years (Dixit k, 2017) but due to irregular rain patterns, the crops aren't growing properly so they don't have enough food, which is forcing them to leave behind their culture and eat eggs, meats and dairy products.

The drokpas also miss the cold weather quite a bit, since they are used to it and there whole lifestyle and clothing revolves around the cold weather.
