Things You Didn't Know About Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig emerges from the sea - Changing Styles: Daniel Craig - Heart

There are many things to know about the longest-running James Bond, Daniel Craig. From his height to his reluctance to take the famous role.

Daniel Craig is one of the most popular English actors working today. While he starred in a few big movies throughout the early 2000s, he earned worldwide renown after playing James Bond in Casino Royale. Ever since then, he has remained both an action star and a surprisingly hilarious A-lister - as proven in the hilarious 2018 murder-mystery-comedy, Knives Out. No matter what he does or what type of movie he is in, Daniel Craig proves both excellent and entertaining.

Like many A-list actors, Daniel Craig has quite a robust personal life, and many aspects of it are quite interesting and well worth sharing.

He Played Rugby

Anyone who has seen the recent James Bond movies knows that Daniel Craig is an athletic powerhouse. He is very muscular and sturdily built - the perfect combination for a rugby player.

Craig grew up in Hoylake, a seaside town in the west of the United Kingdom, directly on the mouth of the River Dee. While there, according to the BBC, he played rugby for the local team, Hoylake RFC.

He Started In Shakespeare

The James Bond franchise is a far cry from Shakespeare, but that doesn't mean its actors can't perform in The Bard's famous plays. According to Cinenews.be, Craig began acting at the age of 14, starring in a local high school production of Romeo and Juliet.

After dropping out of high school, he auditioned for the National Youth Theatre and moved to London. After being accepted, Craig made his professional stage debut in another Shakespeare production, playing Agamemnon in Troilus and Cressida.

He Worked As A Waiter

Struggling actors working as waiters seems like a cliché, but it's rooted in reality, and Craig is a testament to this. Stage acting doesn't often always pay well, and while working with the National Youth Theatre, Craig was in desperate need of some cash.

When Craig wasn't touring with the NYT and venturing to the likes of Spain and Moscow, Cinenews reports that he was working as a waiter to help pay the bills.

He Studied Alongside Many Notable Actors

In 1988, Craig began attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, an esteemed performance arts school located in London. The school was established back in 1880 and has graduated some of the biggest names in English cinema. While attending the school in the late '80s, Craig studied alongside the likes of Damian Lewis, Ewan McGregor, and Joseph Fiennes.

The latter is particularly interesting, as Craig would later work with Joseph's older brother Ralph in the Bond franchise. The actor took over the role of M from Judi Dench in Skyfall, making for one of Fiennes' most memorable movie roles.

He Is The First Bond To Be Born After The Series Began

One of the neatest things about Craig playing Bond (and one of the biggest things aging the series) is that he is the first Bond actor to be born after the series began. The Bond franchise officially began with Dr. No in 1962. George Lazenby (perhaps the most underrated Bond) was born in 1939, Roger Moore in 1927, Timothy Dalton in 1946, Pierce Brosnan in 1953, and Craig in 1968.

That said, he is not the youngest actor to have played Bond. Craig was 38 years old when Casino Royale premiered in November 2006, whereas George Lazenby was just 30 when On Her Majesty's Secret Service was released in December 1969.

And as always have a chilled day from the Viking
