5 Facts About the Ukulele

Are you a big fan of the ukulele? If so, do you know these five facts about the little instrument:

The ukulele came to life in the 19th century in Hawaii. It is an adaptation of the Portuguese instrument the machete.
The ukulele's name supposedly translates to "jumping flea" in Hawaiian.
The ukulele most commonly comes in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. However, there are other sizes available including the minuscule pocket ukulele.
There are four strings on a standard ukulele which are tuned to G, C, E, and A.
There are a variety of ukulele hybrid instruments available including the guitalele (a cross between the classical guitar and the ukulele) and the banjolele (a cross between the banjo and the ukulele).
