  • The ukulele came to life in the 19th century in Hawaii. It is an adaptation of the Portuguese instrument the machete.

  • The ukulele most commonly comes in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. However, there are other sizes available including the minuscule pocket ukulele.

  • There are a variety of ukulele hybrid instruments available including the guitalele (a cross between the classical guitar and the ukulele) and the banjolele (a cross between the banjo and the ukulele).
