With the news that we’re set for a lengthy spell of good weather, the team here at Quality Unearthed will all be heading out to lay our blankets down with our friends and diving into a full feast of treats in our favourite spots this weekend.

The word ‘picnic’ originally stems back to 1794, exactly 100 years after ‘pique-nique’ first appeared in the French language.
In the United States of America, National Picnic Day is celebrated on April 23.
When the initial idea of a picnic was brought together, it was seen to be a fashionable social event whereby each guest would contribute by bringing food to the picnic.

The French were the people who first introduced the modern idea of picnics when they opened their royal parks to the French public after the revolution in 1789.
John W Bratton was the man responsible for the tune for the famous children’s song The Teddy Bear’s Picnic, which was composed in 1907.
