VERY INTERESTING: SPINOSAURUS

Hello ladies and gents this is the Viking telling you that today we are talking about

Spinosaurus

It was discovered in 1912 in Egyptian Bahiriya oasis by Austrian palaeontologist Richard Markgraf however nobody was sure what it was until in 1915 by German palaeontologist Ernst Stromer von Reichenbach understood it was a new dinosaur and named it Spinosaurus.

Spinosaurus means Spined reptile for its giant sail on its back. Though not a reptile it lived amongst large crocodiles. It could swim! Spinosaurus was the largest aquatic dinosaur. Living in the swampy area feeding on prehistoric fish like

Onchopristis, an ancestor of the sawfish. It did feed on smaller dinosaurs too. Spinosaurus was the longest carnivore to walk the earth. From head to tail, it measured up to 17 feet, it stood 20 feet and 6 meters and weighed a whopping 9 tons! It had no enemies!

It had sensors in his skull like a crocodile! Just as crocodiles and alligators have tiny holes in their skull where nerves would pick up vibrations in the water so they can pinpoint an attack, Spinosaurus had the exact same thing! Its skull is covered in them, so it had the same ability to pinpoint where fish were to snap up its next meal.

It had straight teeth! One thing that tells us it was a fish eater is the teeth! No curves or serrated it had teeth just like a crocodile all 64!

From 1915 to 2022 it has gone through a lot of changes!

  • 1915- It stood up right,  walking on two legs.
  • 1970/1980- It leaned a bit forward still believing it walked on two.
  • 2001- It was leaned right over, still only walking on two.
  • 2008/2010- It ran on two legs and walked on four and the sail changed shape having more of a dip in the middle.
  • 2014- It walked on its knuckles and ran on two legs, the sail keeping the dip.
  • 2020- It walked and ran on all fours like a crocodile, its sail had a dip in it and had more of a crocodile tail then a normal dinosaur kind.
