Hello ladies and gents this is the Viking telling you that today we are talking about
Golders Hill Park
Golders Hill Park, located west of Hampstead Heath in north London is a large park largely grassy heathland but also with formal gardens.
History
The park including the walled garden dates originally from the mid-18th century, becoming a public park in 1898. Later additions were the bandstand and sports facilities.
Golders Hill Park is now managed by the City of London Corporation. The City of London is a separate county but together with the London boroughs forms the Greater London region, governed from City Hall.
The park is named after the Godyere family that owned the surrounding area in the 14th century as is the Golders Green tube station.
Layout
The park contains various distinct areas including a bandstand (which hosts free music concerts in the summer), a cafe (see below), a children's playground, a croquet lawn, table tennis tables, four hard-surface tennis courts, a walled garden and a small zoo.
The zoo is small but has a number of exotic animals including an eagle owl, donkeys, fallow deer, lemurs, and wallabies. Visitors can help support the zoo by adopting an animal. The zoo began in the early 20th century when deer were donated to the park. There are plans to refocus the zoo to more represent "Wildlife in Britain."
Cafe
The Golders Hill Park Café on the northern edge of the park offers hot and cold meals as well as ice cream, snacks and drinks. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. It is open from 9 am to 6 pm.
Nearby
There are several interesting places to visit near Golders Hill Park including Kenwood House within Hampstead Heath to the northeast and Fenton House and Garden, a 17th century manor house and walled garden - and now a National Trust property to the south .
Both the Old Bull & Bush Hampstead and The Spaniards Inn are historic London pubs in Hampstead. The artist William Hogarth drank at the former while writers John Keats, Lord Byron, and Bram Stoker and were among the clientele of the latter.
And as always have a chilled day from the Viking
