Things About... Russell Howard
Boy-faced comedian Russell Howard has a huge list of achievements under his belt. His stand-up tours are constantly extended due to popular demand, he's been named 'Best Theatre Show' in Chortle's comedy awards and his Russell Howard's Good News is BBC Three's most popular show.
He was last week named the number one 'weird crush' in a poll by Heat magazine readers. We've found ten facts you may not know about the unusual heartthrob.
1. Russell Joseph Howard was born on March 23, 1980 in Bristol. He has two younger siblings, twins Kerry and Daniel. Although always close to his brother, it wasn't until they were both older that Russell started to get along with his sister. Kerry now works as an actress and appears in BBC3 show Him & Her and comedy film I Give It a Year.
2. He's actually a bit of a smarty pants. Russell attained a 2:1 degree in economics from the University of West of England. He says the only reason for doing it was "because it was what my mates were doing".
3. His topical show Russell Howard's Good News won Digital Spy's reader poll for the best show on BBC Three. The show's ratings have steadily grown and his latest series had its highest ratings so far. It is also the most-requested BBC Three show on iPlayer.
4. Russell ran the London Marathon in 2010. It took him four hours and 15 minutes, beating his own target of five hours. He said of the experience: "I had a running duel with a man dressed as a banana for 20 miles and eventually he beat me." In the same year he also took part in the BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride. David Walliams, Jimmy Carr, Fearne Cotton, Miranda Hart, Patrick Kielty and Davina McCall also took part and cycled from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land's End in four days, trying to raise £1 million.
5. Despite coming from a family of traditional Bristol Rovers fans, Russell is a huge supporter of Liverpool and is "deadly serious" about football. He even wanted to be a footballer when he was younger and played for Basingstoke Town.
