Watch Focus: Ateliers deMonaco
For a relatively young brand – Ateliers deMonaco was founded in 2008 by Pim Koeslag and Peter Stas – the marque has come a long way. Their hallmark of technical excellence has been quickly established, with in-house mechanical movements, hand-crafted decorative details and an elegant design aesthetic (think gleaming chamfered bridges and sculptural skeleton dials) all featuring.
Originally created in 2009 and inspired by Princess Charlene of Monaco, the La Sirène line marked the brand’s first foray into high jewellery. Then, light blue topaz stones reflected the colour of the Princess’s eyes, but it’s all change for the new models. They still have the technical nous, of course, as both watches are powered by the in-house automatic dMc-700 calibre, wound by a 22K solid gold rotor.
An impressive power reserve of 42 hours, with a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, means they will run reassuringly smoothly. The appearance is just as pleasing, with the La Sirène Diamant boasting a case set with 297 diamonds, a bezel set with 300 diamonds and a crown set with 20 diamonds. The solid gold dial has been carefully embellished with 120 diamonds in a delicate flower pattern, making for an elegantly feminine finish.
